Our new, advanced SC16 products include bridges that provide seamless protocol conversion between I2C/SPI buses and UART/IrDA/GPIO serial interfaces. UART and IrDA serial interfaces can be easily added to designs while cutting down the host interface from 15 wires to only 2 or 4 wires using the I2C or SPI bus. UART RS-485 interfaces can span thousands of feet, while IrDA interfaces provide wireless connectivity.
